SUMMARY
In August of 2011, Storm Irene caused severe damage to the bank that had protected Victoria Beach Condominium Association. The bank was further eroded in October of 2012 by Storm Sandy. RACE worked with East Haven’s State Senator Len Fasano and its Mayor Joseph Maturo to obtain regulatory approval from CT DEEP for an armored stone revetment to protect the continuously eroding coastal bank. Fifteen (15) residential units are located within 10-ft of the eroding slope.
The design process involved determining a solution that would satisfy both the regulators and provide the Association with adequate protection from future storms and consequential erosion. RACE developed repair alternatives, prepared regulatory permit applications with the CT DEEP and local officials, prepared final engineering design and construction documents for a stone revetment, seawall, and beach replenishment and assisted the Association in selecting a construction contractor. RACE also provided Engineering Services During the Construction process ensuring that the work was constructed in accordance with the design and the regulatory approvals.
