The Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) is hosting an in-person Hurricane Awareness course on two 2025 dates (August 12 in Old Saybrook and August 14 in Fairfield). The course is free; the same course will be taught on both dates.

This eight-hour awareness-level course provides emergency managers, first responders, and community members across all sectors with a basic understanding of the latest knowledge in hurricane science, forecasting, warning, and preparedness. This course enhances the ability of state/local decision-makers to identify and describe the hazards associated with hurricanes and to better prepare for and mitigate the impacts of high winds, heavy rain, and storm surge.

The target audience for this awareness-level course includes participants across a broad spectrum of the community who need to be aware of the threat of hurricanes and tropical cyclones. In particular, this should be of interest to emergency managers, first responders, small businesses, corporations, federal/state/tribal governments, NGO's, community organizations, and typical households who need to prepare and respond to hazards associated with hurricanes and tropical cyclones.
