Project Spotlight: Perry’s Green, Town of Fairfield
Rehabilitation of Southport's historic Perry’s Green
Perry’s Green is a popular waterfront park in the historic Southport section of the Town of Fairfield, CT. Parts of the public park’s retaining structures date back to the 1800s. The steel bulkhead supporting the land was corroded beyond repair. The grounds were becoming potentially dangerous – sinkholes were developing, and the retaining wall was failing.
The Town contracted RACE to prepare the shoreline repairs for the property. Following extensive inspections, geotechnical explorations, coastal flood, and structural analyses, RACE designed and permitted a new timber, navy-styled bulkhead. The bulkhead connects to an aging seawall, which will further be replaced.
The improvements to the park will secure the property for future generations. Construction, performed by Terry Contracting, is estimated to be complete by the end of this year.
