RACE’s Vice President of Coastal Engineering, Azure Dee Sleicher, has been elected to the Connecticut Association of Flood Managers’ (CAFM) Board of Directors. The organization (ctfloods.org) promotes education, public policies and activities that mitigate current and future flood losses, costs and human suffering caused by flooding while protecting the natural and beneficial functions of floodplains.

Azure Dee, who has more than 22 years of specialized coastal engineering experience, joins a group of diverse professionals involved in floodplain, watershed, coastal, wetlands, disasters, stormwater management and related disciplines who share knowledge about floodplain management at local, state and regional scales.

Azure Dee is well-versed in determining and mapping coastal flood hazard areas in accordance with FEMA’s Guidelines and Specifications. She has extensive experience with coastal wave and sediment modeling, federal, state and local regulatory requirements, and has designed and managed numerous solutions for beach nourishment, bluff stabilization and natural shoreline flood mitigation.

A recognized expert in coastal resiliency and floodplain mapping, Azure Dee has been selected to present on FEMA flood mapping and coastal modeling procedures to CAFM, the Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association and other organizations affected by shoreline erosion and flooding. Azure Dee is credentialed in Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines (WEDG®) by the Waterfront Alliance – a New York City-based organization focused on effecting resilient, revitalized and accessible coastlines.

“I am honored to join CAFM’s Board,” remarked RACE Principal Azure Dee. “I look forward to working with the statewide CAFM membership to plan, develop and execute objectives that reduce future flood risks and its associated dangers and damages.”
