SUMMARY
RACE was contracted by the Town of Guilford to assess and develop coastal resiliency alternatives for two low-lying sections of roadway in the Sachem’s Head neighborhood of Guilford, CT. The roadways of interest included portions of Falcon Road and Chimney Corner Circle/Prospect Ave. With a near 20-mile direct, open-water exposure to Long Island Sound, Falcon Road is commonly impacted by storm surge and wave events. Historically, these events have left the roadway and supporting seawall damaged and impassable until repairs were made. Similarly, Chimney Corner Circle/Prospect Ave experiences chronic coastal flooding even from high tide events, often leaving residents unable to access or leave their properties which the road services.
RACE prepared coastal flooding and alternatives analysis studies to better consider how best to approach the flooding impacts at each of these sites. RACE is contracted to design resiliency solutions and prepare regulatory State and Federal permit applications.
