RACE Project Manager Spotlight
Matt Rakowski, PE
Matt Rakowski had a large design and construction oversight role in the waterfront improvements which have occurred at Steelpointe Harbor. “It’s been a pleasure working with the Developers, design professionals, and contractors on such an important project that is reviving the Bridgeport Waterfront,” states Matt.
Matt has an Engineering Degree from the University of Rhode Island, focusing on Structural Engineering, and has advanced his knowledge in the coastal engineering field by completing the Graduate Coastal Engineering Certificate program from Old Dominion University this spring. During this time, Matt increased his academic knowledge in wave analysis, sediment transport, dredging, and design of coastal structures. In working on projects along the coastline, Matt is able to apply his knowledge to projects such that cost effective and viable solutions are provided to his clients.
Throughout his younger years Matt was pulled into a world of math and science in part from his parents being civil engineers. He excelled at the two subjects which directed him into the field of engineering. He loves problem solving and being a structural engineer in the coastal environment.
Matt excels in the construction administration role and being able to provide quick solutions due to field conditions. Throughout every project Matt works closely with his clients, enjoying the personal contact while helping each one through the design and construction process.
Many of you may be familiar with the new boat ramp and floating dock systems at Veterans Memorial Park in Norwalk, CT; Matt’s design and construction oversight has greatly improved the community’s recreational access to Norwalk Harbor and Long Island Sound. Some other recent designs by Matt include a pile supported pool renovation for the Belle Haven Club and replacement of a timber pier at Riverside Yacht Club.
“In the coastal engineering field it seems as though every day provides itself with a new set of challenges that need solutions,” reflects Matt. Creative and unique designs for waterfront structures is what makes Matt tick and he loves seeing the concepts become reality.
